However the people who packaged your Ubuntu version included an integrated odf converter which is why it works for you. There is a command line Windows version but it is not integrated yet. This results in an XML file which is at least readable.

However, part of me feels that the best tactic is to continue to say “no comprehendo” just to further nark the poor suckers who paid silly money for the latest version of MSOffice. Or even better, translate it into a .DOC format, then send it back, indicating that they may wish to resend it in a format other computer users can understand.
