The persons “bound” for support are not always the fathers
In most cases, certainly, the father is one of the people bound, but obviously, since there are often two or more bound, he had to round up some help to support the child or the mother did. No explanation for the identities of these people is included. Some are identified in vestry minutes or overseers of the poor records and some are identified in quarter sessions reports, but the names here should be only used as clues, not as definite “proof” of paternity.
The churchwardens' names are omitted from this transcript. They are in the middle column of a two page spread and were often lost due to wear.
