Don’t lose your key cards!
- 8. If you lose a card, in order to replace it you will need your registration document and driving licence or other form of identification. There will be at least a 10 day wait while the key blade arrives from France. You will also need around ½hr. workshop time to code the electronics to match the car (this can be done while waiting for the blade).
- 9. If you lose both cards you will also need a tow truck or a very good car thief. You can’t get in the doors, disengage the immobiliser or the steering lock. On newer models you may have trouble with the alarm and anti-jack system as well.
The main agents have an absolute monopoly on this work as only they get the tools and training to recode the keys.
regarding laguna key card i have found a small electronics company who will fix faulty cards….all i did was cut open card with a stanley blade and sent it down…they can replace micro switches or repair pcb,s damaged by too much flexing….cost me 28 pounds to get 2 cards fixed opposed to renault wanting 280 pounds for replacement cards….send them too

Thanks Steven, I have a dead one that could do with reviving. It is only a poor contact on a button I think. I found they have a web site at http://www.davidsonelectronics.co.uk/ [note, I haven’t used the company myself]
Laguna i a good french car i like it! 🙂
If it’s only a broken contact (- which is probable when you bear the key around in your pocket -) then it’s easy to do it yourself. I repaired my dead key today. Just cut the sides with a sharp knife – start with the corners. Then i just soldered the broken contact, test, then glue and: voila! That’s easy money, Renault @#$% grmbl….(!) I don’t understand why this can’t be done in a Renault garage. What does service mean these days? Anyway… I can spend my 200 euros for something better now 🙂

Thanks Ryan, I will give it a whirl – I wish electronic gear still used screws, I tried to get a cordless phone apart the other day – no luck, it just wouldn’t shift without damaging it.
I repair the Laguna keycards.
Have a look at my website or drop me a line
