The 2000+ Renault Laguna (the one with no keyholes) has a few quirks which are not in the owners manual (if we still had it). These are based on experience and may be mistaken but also may also apply to other cars, especially other Renault models.
- When the card key battery runs low it fails to operate the door mechanism. Changing the battery appears not to make any difference but the problem is that it has lost the code. Get into the car using the other key then use the faulty key (with a new battery) to start the car. This re-instates the code.
- If the dashboard goes haywire e.g. all lights stuck on, then it can be reset/tested by removing the card key; hold down the trip computer button on the end of the stick and while it is pressed, put the key back in. This will then reset the computer and go through a test sequence. Remove the key to stop it.
- The tyre pressure warning system is sensitive to the cold, especially sub zero temperatures. The symptoms are that all four tyres show flat and the warning light flashes. This will clear itself after about a half mile when the tyres warm up. I had it fixed once under warantee (no idea what they did) but it still does it most winters.
- A poor contact in the electric sunroof switch can cause it to open at unexpected times. The switch is expensive (c£100) so disconnect it by pulling out the plug (the switch panel just pops off). Fortunately the default position for the roof is closed.
Oh dear, just brought a 52 plate 2.o dci petrol it only has one keycard, how much is a new one ?
But my reason for surfing for renault sites is that at tick over it runs really rough and the petrol consumstion went down to 22 mpg yesterday !
Can anybody recommend any other websites with info, oh I have no owners manual either
Renault Laguna 1.9Dci ’51 plate with 68000 miles
Good evening all you HAPPY Laguna owners. I wonder if anyone can help? Have lost the handbook for both car and radio. Had a flat battery last week and had to replace it. Obviously i had to reset the code on my radio and having found it need to know the sequence of punching it in.
Have been reading all your thoughts about the Laguna and also have had problems with:
1. Tyre sensor
2. Rear COMPLETE suspension including Void bushes.
3. NOISY Turbo
4. Front bearings.
Luckily i have my own personal Renault wizz kid so don’t have to pay dealers prices! I know somebody who works for Renault!
Still, though, find it a great car to drive even though it has its little faults.

hi all does anyone know how to remove the leather gear knob with chrome type insert with out having to get underneath and undo all the linkage etc, as mine has peeled and worn badly. i have sourced a secondhand one and want to fit it, please help if you can..
hi again has anyone had trouble with the parking sensors as mine have not worked for some time now? do you know how to fix them?
Hi, re the gear knob – we think that if you lift the skirt you should find that it is secured under the knob with a cable tie. Cut this and it should just lift off. Then you will probably find that the knob unscrews. There is a bit of guess work in this as I haven’t done it on mine but that is how they usually work.
I know nothing about parking sensors – I didn’t know they did them. They would be useful around here 🙁
If you are dealing with a current shape Laguna manual gear knob: The answer is, just grab the knob and pull straight up, fairly firmly. It “snaps” into position on the gearstick. To replace you simply put in place and push. Don’t try and screw it, cause it won’t.
Hi guys, anyone know the approx cost of NEW KEYCARD. I have two, but on both keys the button to lock the car does not work. I can open the car alright but obviously haveto lock it with the key on the passenger side. can these cards be fixed or is a replacement my answer???? and how much
thakns
One of my keys doesnt lock, can anyone tell me if it can be repaired. I think it is the micro switch inside because the red light doesnt light up when lock is pressed, but does light up when unlock is pressed.
Can the card be opened by prising apart? I dont want to fully wreck it.
Thanks Rob
Hi all, found this site by accident looking for a downloadable handbook for the Laguna (no luck yet). I have just bought a T reg 1.6 petrol estate and there are a few niggly things about it.
The drivers airbag light is on and off, can it be fixed or disconnected?
Theres an electrial sounding whining at the rear when the engines idling, what coud this be?
Also, (forgive my girlie descriptions here) at idle theres an odd bubbly noise from the engine. Any clues?
The gear box seems a whole lot slower and heavier than that of my 1.6 Astra estate I had before, and pulling away needs a heavy boot. Is this usual?
Oh, one more thing, where can I find an online handbook?
Thanks in advance,
Jacqui
Hi Jacqui, the T Reg Laguna is the previous model and completely unrelated to the one discussed here. Sorry I can’t help you.
Rob, I hope it can be fixed because mine is the same. I just haven’t got around to trying yet. I think an earlier commenter said that you need to cut it apart with a sharp blade, fix it and glue it back together again.
Jody, they are expensive, that is why we are trying to fix ours. I will report back with more info when I know. If the key does anything then it should be fixable.
Geoff, thanks for the info.

im sure by now you will have got this sorted, but for others in the same boat, here goes.
i have not done this but have had it explained to me, to enter the radio code, use the scroll wheel behind the audio remote controls to set the first number, then press the button underneath the remote audio control block, do the same for all 4 numbers, on pressing the button after entering the last number it should then be unlocked.
i only know this as i have just bought my first laguna today, a 51 plate dynamique 1.8 petrol.

Hi Guys!
Yes! Yes! Yes i`ve experienced all the problems that most of you have described I.E: tyre sensor faults, dodgey Key cards etc. I have a Laguna sports tourer ( 02 Plate )
Tyre Sensors
With regards to the tyre sensors, as like others the extreme cold can cause warning lights to come on and not go off, even after driving a short distance to warm tyres up. I found that by deflating the tyres and then re-inflating to slightly over there PSI rating eliviated the fault. Also in very hot conditions ( Summer ) going to a drive through car wash was a bad idea. The extreme temperature change when water was put on the alloys caused the same fault. Again deflate and then re-inflate sorted the problem.
Key cards
Don`t get caught out! I`ve been looking for ages for new cards, however my local renault dealers will not reprogramme 2nd hand cards from e-bay etc, so don`t buy them.
Also i found a local independant company who claimed they could buy the cards and reprogramme them for me @ a cost of £135.00 + vat each – What a rip off. My local Renault dealer only charges £66.00 + Vat for the cards each and £28.00 per unit + vat for the labour to reprogramme.
So think again! Dave ( The Kentish Man )
got a 2.2 dci 02 laguna replaced the battery turned the car on no problems but no sat nav,no radio,no temp readings no nothing have you ever come across this problem before?
No, never seen this before, initial thought suggests a blown auxiliary fuse, but it may be worth trying to reset the computer as detailed in point 2 of the original post.
Hi there Laguna lovers. I own a 1.9dci estate. It is a 2001 model and has done 150,000 miles. It is in mint condition and everything works wonderfully.I am very pleased with my car. The cards can be reprogramed – sadly only by the dealers. The sensors on the wheels, I did have a short incident of this when I first bought the car. The valve needs a new sealer applied to it and then it does not loose air between alloy wheel and valve.
Does anyone know how to turn off the passenger side air bag on a laguna estate?
Hi Piper, thanks for you comment. I can’t help with the air-bags, I have lost my owners manual as well.
I’ve justed stumbled across this Laguna gold mine. I’ve got a 2001 1.8 Dynamique too many problems to mention but the most annoying one is since about a month ago I’ve totaaly lost my radio reception and I know not why. I’ve tested the head unit by plugging in another aeriel and holding it out the window. Any ideas. Thanks
I presume that the results of your test determined that the head unit was OK. I think the aerial is the rear screen heater so there must be a break in the connection along the line – does that still work? Perhaps not though, because I can’t think how it would work as one end would need to be earthed for the heater to work! – I don’t really know.
I wish to fit alloy wheels to my 51 plate Renault Laguna Expression.
Having had problems with the tyre pressure sensors before i would like to know if anyone knows how i can disable them without paying the dealership alot of money!
Thanks in advance
